Hello! My name is Jolene Jolley. I live in Tooele, Utah on a small farm with my husband, Jeff, and two sons, Paden and Dalton. We call our little slice of Heaven Jolley Acres! I have always had a deep love for animals having grown up with horses, sheep, cattle, pigs, chickens, turkeys, and a few mixed breed goats we kept around to eat weeds. My family raised registered Suffolk sheep for many years and my grandparents ran cattle. My husband’s family also raised and showed registered Suffolk sheep. So we are not new to the livestock industry. At the beginning of my oldest son’s Freshman year in high school we began looking for an animal that would be a good fit for him to raise and show for his FFA market project. His advisor suggested we try goats. Although they were still very new in our area, we thought it would be fun to try something new. Our whole family immediately fell in love with the goats; they really aren’t like any other livestock we’ve ever raised. We sold everything but the horses and chickens and started raising Boer goats! And that’s where it all began, 6 years ago! We have made the transition from sheep to goats rather seamlessly. Since that time we have focused on selecting choice genetics to add to our herd. We focus on continual improvement year over year. We actively show the goats we raise in market and ABGA shows so quality is very important to us. We understand that you get out of your operation what you put into it. We appreciate the Boer industry and our goal is to continue to help promote it. I heard about the SRMGA from a past Board member who I had randomly contacted looking for a new buck. She told me all about SRMGA and invited me to come to a show. So I grabbed one of my best friends, we loaded the truck and trailer with our goats and we headed to New Plymouth, Idaho for our first SRMGA show. We had no idea what we were in for or what attending that one show would lead to. The New Plymouth shows have easily become my favorite shows to attend. I look forward to serving as a Board Member and being more involved with this wonderful group of people! I’m very excited for this opportunity.
