Owner: Anderson Boer Goats
Roosevelt, Utah
My name is Julia Anderson, I am the owner/operator of Anderson Boer Goats, and co-operate CK Show Goats for my nieces and nephew. I am also a leader to a chartered goat 4H club with 8 kids, from 3 different families. I am a committee member for the Wasatch Boer Classic. And I am excited to take the opportunity to serve on the board for SRMGA and promote the meat goat. My first job at age 12 was milking goats for the neighbors. By the time I graduated high school I swore I’d never have anything to do with goats, EVER again. I was going to train horses, which I did. I was part of the race horse world for 12 years, which started while I was in high school, as my second job. I was working on my third race baby when I lost my mare the day she foaled. I scrambled to feed the hungry hippo, at just a week old she was drinking over a gallon a day of mares match! EXPENSIVE stuff!!! So off to the sales barn I went and came back with a toggenburg and a boer/nubian cross. I had no intention of keeping the goats, but you all know how goats are…..so there I was with 2 does, naturally I had to get a buck. So in 2010 Anderson Boer Goats was born, with 10 commercial does and 1 buck. In 2011 the best trade I ever made was that last horse I owned for 7 registered goats. Fast-forward 10 years, and the herd has gotten just a bit out of control…we run 30-50 does, fullblood, percentage and wether bred. My “never again” attitude towards goats has changed drastically over the last decade. Now I can waste a good part of the day sitting on a milk crate watching babies play, making plans for the farm, evaluating stock and enjoying my life.
